EU Sends Aid Supplies Worth $.5m To Libya
Eko Hot Blog reports that the European Union (EU) on Thursday has provided aid to Libya following the devastating flood ravaging the North African nation.

According to reports from a press briefing held in Brussels, the spokesperson for the bloc, Balazs Ujvari, said that 500,000 euros ($533, 290) has been released to the country as emergency aid to cover the most needed materials for Libyans.
Ujvari added that more aids might be sent over the coming hours and days.
Parts of the aids sent to Libya include shelters, generators, medical teams and search and rescue helicopters.
The flood which occurred since on Sunday was caused by the Mediterranean storm Daniel, leading to the forceful opening of dams in Derna
More than 11,000 people have died since the floods occurred and thousands displaced across the country. The Libyan Red Crescent group’s secretary-general, in a telephone conversation, told The Associated Press that more than 10,000 persons are missing.
First plane carrying aid materials from Germany took off at about 1430 local (1230 GMT) on Thursday bound for Libya.

Supply materials include: 100 tents, 1,000 beds, sleeping mats, sleeping bags and emergency generators.
“It is important to get there as quickly as possible, because of course every hour counts in these disasters. And that’s why we sorted the relief supplies together overnight and then transported them across Germany to Wunstorf so that they could be loaded quickly and then flown to the relevant regions,” the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Johann Saathoff said.
