Led by the outstanding Malick Fofana, Lyon showcased their quality, with the teenage sensation quickly putting the visitors ahead with a precise strike into the corner.

The Ibrox crowd, energized by the team’s previous win in Sweden, erupted in flares and fireworks before kickoff and had brief cause to celebrate when Tom Lawrence equalized.
Corentin Tolisso’s misplaced header allowed Cyriel Dessers to steal possession and set up Lawrence, who slotted home.
However, like Celtic’s struggles in the Champions League earlier in the week, Rangers found it difficult to contain their higher-caliber European opponents.
A slack backpass from Connor Barron was intercepted by Fofana, who selflessly teed up Alexandre Lacazette for a composed finish.
Lacazette then blasted a second goal, leaving Rangers’ goalkeeper Jack Butland with no chance. Lyon’s wingers, Rayan Cherki and Fofana, tormented the Rangers’ defence throughout.

Cherki dazzled Barron in the box before setting up Fofana for an easy tap-in, sealing his brace.
The scoreline ended 4-1, though Lyon could have added more. Duje Caleta-Car hit the post with a powerful header, and Tolisso’s follow-up was cleared off the line.
Kieran Dowell’s late strike was saved by Lucas Perri, but it would have been nothing more than a consolation as Rangers were thoroughly outclassed by the French side.
