Eko Hot Blog reports that the former Directors and Secretaries of the defunct Directorates of the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) have set up a new group to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
The former PCC Executives set up the “Former PCC Directors & Secretaries Forum” on Saturday at their maiden meeting at the PCC headquarters in Abuja to deliberate on issues of national importance as well as articulate some concerns that are common to them.
Recall that the group ran a successful campaign that resulted in Tinubu winning the 2023 presidential election.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the president won 8,794,726 votes to beat his closest contender, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, who polled 6,984,520 votes in the election.
Peter Obi of the Labour Party came third in the election with a total of 6,101,533 votes while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP came fourth with 1,496,687 votes.
In a statement on Sunday, the new group’s Publicity Secretary, Hon. Femi Odere, said the move to create the Former PCC Directors & Secretaries Forum was in furtherance of their efforts and contributions through their various directorates to the electoral victory of Tinubu and Shettima.
“The former PCC Executives, under the aegis of ‘Former PCC Directors & Secretaries Forum’ resolved at the maiden meeting to continue to support the Tinubu presidency through articulation and educating the Nigerian public for a better understanding of government policies in their various constituencies,” the statement reads.
“In setting the tone for the meeting in his opening remarks, the presiding chairman Rtd. Major-General A.M Jibril said while the meeting was necessitated by the need to officially thank members for a job well done and show respect for the leadership of the PCC that paved the way for the election victory of the President in February 2023, it was also important to articulate the right strategies by which the Tinubu administration can be supported going forward.
“Towards this end, some of the socioeconomic policies such as the fuel subsidy removal, fiscal and monetary policy harmonization, palliatives, and minimum wage, among others were discussed while the ECOWAS imbroglio with the military junta in the Niger Republic as a component of the nation’s strategic national and foreign policy objectives was also a subject of discussion.
“There was also a unanimous agreement among participants that the front liners during the presidential campaign through their various directorates are systematically being alienated and disenfranchised from the governance scheme of things through political appointments. And they have apprehensions about this worrisome development.
“However, they are not unmindful of the fact that the government is yet to be fully formed.”
Consequently, the forum elected members of the executive council to pilot the affairs of the former Directors and Secretaries of the defunct PCC Directorates.
