Ex-Lagos NUJ Chairman Qasim Akinreti Congratulates Lateef Odegbenle On Bagging PhD

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, Dr. Qasim Akinreti, has congratulated Broadcast Journalist, Abdul Lateef Odegbenle, who recently bagged a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Mass Communication.

Dr. Odegbenle obtained his PhD from the Babcock University, Ilishan, Remo, Ogun State.

In a statement on Wednesday, Dr. Akinreti, who is also the Deputy Director, Digital Media, Voice of Nigeria (VON), praised the resilience of the new PhD holder.

He praised Dr. Odegbenle as a friend who always supported him during his tenure as NUJ chairman in Lagos State.

Recounting the trajectory of Dr. Odegbenle’s academic life, Dr. Akinreti described him as “soft-spoken, straightforward and intelligent,” while praying to God to grant him sound health, wisdom, and longevity.

“First, my profound appreciation to Allah swt, the Almighty God, for crowning the efforts of Abdul Lateef Odegbenle, bagging a PhD in Mass Communication at the prestigious Babcock University Ilishan Remo,” the former NUJ Lagos chairman said.

“I graduated from the Babcock University postgraduate school department of Mass Communication in 2017. That same year, I became the Chairman of NUJ Lagos State Council. It was a race well taken.

“What a Journey of academic life. Abdul Lateef Odegbenle was also there, resolute in the face of Challenges at Babcock University, Ditto Jide Johnson, PhD Director Special Programmes at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ, Ogba Lagos.

“From his days at Bayero University, BUK, Kano, Mass Communication department, Abdul Lateef Odegbenle’s determination for academic heights was profound.

“After BUK, Lateef fondly called exhibit Professionalism at its best at DAAR Communications, Ray Power 100.5 FM. He is the DAAR Communications Correspondent at the Lagos House of Assembly. I met him at the Round House Alausa as the State House Correspondent for Voice of Nigeria, VON.

“Soft-spoken, Straightforward and intelligent, Lateef, upon conviction, stands with you through. He was there for me as the Chairman of NUJ between 2017 – 2020. As a member of the State Executive Council, SEC, Lateef, along with others, offered progressive ideas for the Union.

“As he has been hooded and decorated to the full status of a PhD awardee, I am joining his overseas celebration.

“Indeed, I appreciate the support of Professor Ajilore, Department of Mass Communication, Babcock University, Lateef Odegbenle’s supervisor and mine, too, six years ago. Prof, you are a teacher of teachers.

“Jide Johnson, PhD is equally appreciated for his support and understanding. His office at NIJ was the rallying point for academic progressive initiatives for Lateef’s fulfilment.
