EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking during a meeting with his political associates at his country home in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area on Sunday, Ibezi said his decision to leave the APC was influenced by the outcome of the party’s governorship primary election, which produced Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as its candidate.
He described the APC primary as a “charade,” accusing the party of failing to present a credible and electable candidate for the forthcoming Anambra governorship election. Ibezi lamented that the APC leadership had shown little seriousness towards governance and electoral victory.
“I have switched my support to Governor Soludo,” he declared. “Just as I delivered Idemili North and South to President Bola Tinubu in 2023 and to Soludo in the last election, I will once again mobilize votes in November to ensure Soludo’s victory.”
Expressing deep frustration, Ibezi emphasized that his decision was rooted in a desire to promote Anambra’s progress and development. He praised Governor Soludo’s performance, noting that his tour of ongoing projects across the state had convinced him of the governor’s commitment to service delivery.
“Soludo must return for a second term,” he stated firmly. “If your party is not ready to win, what do you do? You move on. I can’t be part of a party that is unserious about governance and victory.”
Addressing his supporters, Ibezi said any loyalist who could not understand his political realignment “lacked the basic understanding of politics.” He added, “Our support for Soludo is total and immediate. The APC is not prepared, and we won’t waste our time.”
Ibezi’s defection comes amid growing unrest within the APC following the withdrawal of three major governorship aspirants—Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Sir Paul Chukwuma, and Chukwuma Umeoji—just hours before the party’s primary election.

The aspirants cited irregularities, violence by some aspirants’ supporters, and alleged manipulation of the process as reasons for pulling out. Okonkwo said he could not endanger the lives of his supporters in a “manipulated primary,” while Chukwuma condemned the exercise, accusing “retrogressive forces” of hijacking the process.
