Eko Hot Blog reports that in a landmark ruling, an Anambra State High Court in Onitsha has convicted and sentenced three former police officers to life imprisonment for their involvement in a murder case dating back to 2016.

The Convicted Officers
The former security personnel, identified as Juliet Ekwueme, Ugochukwu Obiakor, and Raphael Chike, were found guilty of murdering a 42-year-old man named Chukwunonso Uchenwoke from Mbosi in the Ihiala Local Government Area.
The Incident
According to reports, the incident occurred on May 14, 2016, at No. 13 Ibe Street, East Niger Layout, Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area, within the Onitsha Judicial Division.
Legal Proceedings
Presiding over the case, Justice A.O. Okuma ruled that the prosecution successfully proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, leading to the guilty verdict against the accused individuals on charges of conspiracy and murder.
“The charges are in violation of Sections 495(a) and 274(I) of the Criminal Code Cap 36 Volume II, Revised Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991, as amended,” the court stated.

Sentences Handed Down
Consequently, all three defendants received a seven-year prison sentence for conspiracy and life imprisonment for manslaughter. The case was handled by Trulaw Chambers, represented by their lead counsel, C.J. Okeke, with authorization from the Anambra State Attorney General.
“This verdict is another triumph and a clear indication that justice prevails when supported by competent legal representation,” Okeke, the prosecutor, stated.
