Former Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Mudashiru Husain, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election in Osun State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking through a statement issued by his media office and signed by Victor Ojelabi, Husain said his political integrity, track record, and unwavering loyalty to the APC position him as the ideal candidate to dislodge the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The former lawmaker, who also represented the Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency in Lagos State, recalled his crucial role in the APC’s victory during the 2014 Osun governorship election. He said his selfless sacrifice for the party, including stepping down from a return bid to the Senate, proved his commitment to the party’s success.

“The party in 2014 needed Adeleke’s base in Ede to shore up votes for our governorship candidate. Out of loyalty, I gave up my ticket and collapsed my structure for Adeleke and the party at large,” he said.

Husain lamented that despite his sacrifice, the Adeleke political family later abandoned the APC for personal gain. He maintained that his decision to remain with the party while others left helped sustain the Adeleke political dynasty’s relevance at the time.

“Years later, the Adelekes dumped the party for personal ambition, but I stayed with the party. If not for me, the image and political relevance of the Adeleke political dynasty would have died,” he said.

The former senator, who also served as a Commissioner with the National Population Commission (NPC), stressed that his experience in governance and public service gives him the capacity to lead Osun State toward progress and stability.

“My capacity to lead the state to the promised land prompted my decision to aspire for the governorship ticket. I have the capacity and experience to lead Osun State. I’m ready to unseat Demola Adeleke and restore purposeful governance under the APC,” Husain declared.

As internal party activities heat up ahead of the 2026 elections, Husain called on APC leadership to ensure a transparent and democratic selection process. He urged party leaders to provide a level playing field for all aspirants to present their visions and let party members decide their flag bearer.

“I, therefore, appeal to party leaders to allow a level playing field for every contender to showcase their strengths and allow party faithful to decide their candidate,” he concluded.
