Excitement As Eko Club Of Pennsylvania Commissions New Computer Lab At St John School, Aroloya In Lagos

We live in the digital era; an era where educational institutions want their pupils to be Digi-literate. This trend is only set to increase in the coming years.

To keep up with this trend, Eko Club of Pennsylvania inaugurated a new computer lab for the Lagos Island School Authority on Friday, July 14. St. John School, Aroloya, is the beneficiary of the computer lab.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the computer lab, which is furnished with 32 computer systems, will give pupils from Aroloya community access to digital education, and help them learn about skills that will better position them for the future of work.

Speaking at the inauguration, the president of the Eko Club of Pennsylvania, Prince Adewale Dosunmu reiterated the club’s commitment to developing and giving back to communities within Lagos state.

Prince Dosunmu said the club was particularly interested in partnering with educational institutions to create a conducive environment for learning.

The club president said the computer lab, which was fully funded by members of the club, is first in line of the other projects the club intends to fund and unveil in two other communities under the Lagos Island School Authority.

He also disclosed that the club is looking into equipping communities with libraries to enhance the culture of reading.

Also speaking at the inauguration, the Head of Section, Planning, Research and Statistics, Lagos Island LGEA, Mr Bankole Olusola Olusegun applauded the Eko Club of Pennsylvania for their commitment and service to humanity.

An elated Bankole said the computer lab offered the students an opportunity to remain connected to the global world, while also providing them with the requisite skill to compete with their peers across the globe.

On her part, an equally elated Mrs Fausat Abiola Ajomoko, who is the head teacher at computer school, Holy Trinity Computer Centre, Aroloya, laid emphasis on the importance of computer literacy in our world today.

Mrs Ajomoko said the project will enable learners gain more knowledge; and expose them to the digital world.

She also gave her word that the computer lab would be properly managed to encourage the donors’ commitment to the service.

The Education Secretary, Lagos Island LG, Hon. Qudus Omobolaji Abari, who was also present at the event, applauded the Eko Club of Pennysylvania for its good deeds.

He said without the contributions of well-meaning organisations, community schools and centres would fall apart as the government cannot shoulder the responsibility alone.

Hon. Abari disclosed that beyond computer labs, community schools need home economics lab, wood work lab amongst others. He urged private sectors and organisations to follow in the steps of Eko Club of Pennsylvania.

Eko Hot Blog reports that Eko Club of Pennsylvania, a not-for-profit organization in the state of Pennsylvania, USA, is a chapter of the big diaspora based Eko Club International, an umbrella organization of Lagos State indigenes.

The club was established to foster cooperation and collaboration, unity, brotherhood and sisterhood amongst its members, to empower its members politically, socially and economically and to contribute positively to the advancement and prosperity of Lagos State.
