The petitioners over the alleged murder of an 18 month-old baby have on Sunday appealed to the Plateau State Commissioner of Police for exhumation of the baby’s corpse for full scale autopsy.
The unfortunate deceased baby, Chridtabel Uzoma Okoli, was allegedly murdered by an unknown person, who ripped her tummy open and left her laying down in the pool of blood at the Rock Haven residence of her parents in Jos North LGA of Plateau in the evening of Sept. 15, 2020.

The lead petitioner and maternal grandfather, Chief Jerry Egede, made the call in a petition signed by Mrs Edith ldamudia on behalf of their (petitioners) solicitors, Chris Atibaka & Co and made available to the Nation in Jos.
“The purpose for the application is to ascertain with certainty the cause of the baby’s death.
“We hope that you (the state Commisioner of Police) will order for the immediate exhumation of the deceased baby girl before it badly decompose.
“The purpose is for you (CP) to carry out a full comprehensive autopsy to ascertain with certainty whether it is the deceased that was buried and whether all the organs and parts are intact,” Egede explained.
Egede reminded the CP of how the corpse of the little baby girl was hurriedly buried “in less than 24 hours after her death without a license qualified Pathologist carrying out a comprehensive autopsy.”
He also expressed surprise why the police at “A” Division allowed a hurried burial of the baby’s Corpse when they were supposed to immediately take over custody until investigation rules put murder or commission of any crime.
According to him, there was need for him (CP) to critically look at the conduct of the police at “,A” Division within the 1st to 9th hour since the case was reported to them and “thoroughly purge the Division where there’s need for purge.”
The Petitioners expressed hope that their application would be given the desired consideration by the Commissioner for a swift action.
Contacted, the Plateau Police Command’s Public Relation Officer (PPRO), ASP Gabriel Ubah, confirmed receipt of the application and that it was being considered for prompt action.
Ubah said that the police would do all it could to unravel the cause of baby’s death and bring to book anyone found culpable in the alleged murder.
It could be recalled that the police said that they have commenced discreet investigations into the death of the deceased baby, following her mother’s and maternal grandfather’s petition to the state Commissioner of Police to investigate the root cause of her death suspected to be a murder.
