EKO HOT BLOG reports that eyewitnesses reported that the truck was unloading gas cylinders when the fire broke out, triggering a massive explosion that engulfed the premises.
The resulting inferno caused extensive damage to six vehicles parked at the station, with nearby properties narrowly escaping harm due to the swift response of emergency services.
ASP Sadiq-Aliyu stated that the police and fire service promptly intervened to bring the situation under control and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. “Our officers, in collaboration with the state fire service, worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and ensure no lives were lost,” he said.
He added that preliminary investigations indicated the fire was caused by a spark during the unloading process, igniting the highly flammable gas.
While no fatalities or serious injuries were reported, the police spokesperson urged gas station operators and the public to adhere to strict safety measures during the handling and transportation of gas cylinders to prevent similar incidents.
Authorities have since cordoned off the area for a detailed investigation to determine if there were lapses in safety protocols at the station.
The Katsina State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety and emphasized the need for increased vigilance in handling hazardous materials.
