Ezimoha: Drug Trafficker, Executed And Given “Hero’s” Funeral

The story of Ezimoha can be regarded as the “rejected stone” becoming the “cornerstone,” if you ask his family. The irony surrounding his death and burial begs a lot of questions.

In August 2016, history witnessed the story of Izuchukwu Ezimoha as he faced trial for drug trafficking in Indonesia. Ezimoha was convicted for drug trafficking alongside two other Nigerians. The two others were Humphrey Eleweke and Seck Ousmane. An Indonesian, Freddy Budiman, also paid the ultimate price for their crimes.

This event occurred at a time when the Indonesian government were invested in “war against drugs”. The country made sure to shut out all calls and pleas from international scenes for clemency.

Few months after Ezimoha and others were killed by firing squad, his body was brought to his hometown in Ezigbo Village, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

In a burial one would consider loud and regal, he was laid to rest.

The pictures from the burial had tongues wagging as family and friends laid the 35 years old father and husband to rest in his multi-million mansion.

Ezimoha’s sister-in-law believed that the Indonesian government forced a confession out of him by applying electricity to his loins. She also stated that his dying wishes were to be allowed to see his children and wife.

However, Eko Hot Blog recalls that the Nigerian government pleaded with the Indonesian authorities for leniency in a statement.

Without showing remorse for the death of the drug traffickers, Attorney-General Muhammad Prasetyo said “Our battle against drug crimes is not over and it will continue. We will maintain our commitment, our firmness and our consistency.”
