FA CUP Quarters: Ighalo Nets Twice, Man Utd Thrash Derby to Reach Quarterfinals
Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a striker for English Premier League club Manchester United, Odion Ighalo scored his second and third Manchester United goals in their FA Cup fifth round clash against Derby County on Thursday, March 5 2020.
Odion Ighalo, who joined the Red Devils in January after completing a loan move from Shanghai Shenhua, had scored his debut goal in the Europa League.
Ighalo’s brace in only his second start helped United bagg a 3-0 victory over the Championship side as they qualify for quarterfinals of the competition.
Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney, who now plays for Derby County, faced his former side in the game, although, he tried his best but, the scoreline did not go his way.
The United’s all-time leading goalscorer had his name chanted throughout the game by the thousands of fans, and he came close to scoring, with two fine free-kicks.
Ekohotblog understands that, Luke Shaw opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, before Ighalo scored to make it 2-0 before the break, and added the third on 70 minutes.
United have won the FA Cup 12 times, and the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer men are now into the last-eight.
