Lagos state government has showered encomium on one of the front line Environmental Sustainability Organizations in Nigeria, FABE International Foundation, for its tremendous undertakings in fighting climate change and global warming through practicable and actionable skills.
In her keynote address at Nigerian Conservation Foundation Headquarters, Lekki Peninsula, Lagos, on Friday 19 March, 2021, Commissioner for Education in Lagos, Folashade Adefisayo, hailed FABE for working with young people and women in the identification, exploration and facilitation of sustainable eco-solutions to problems caused by the impact of climate change.
The event, during which Graduation, Documentary Screening and Awards ceremony were held, was attended by captains of industry in the environmental sustainability sector.
Represented by Somoye Olusola, Adefisayo expressed delight at the reward of outstanding students and teachers from 12 schools in Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu by FABE in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Education.
She said the award would promote responsible skills around conservation, sanitation and sustainability amongst students in State Schools.
” This medium in reaching out to our youths will really help to make our schools sustainable and bring out an endearing behavioural change in young people”, she stated.
Speaking further, Somoye, who used inferences from academic, religious scholars and Bible to buttress her message, charged participating youths in the project to, as a matter of necessity, visualize their future with what they’ve been taught and formulate innovations and futuristic ideas to fulfil their destinies for the benefit of their homes, communities, Lagos and Nigeria at large.
” I want to challenge you to visualise your future, FABE has already sown a seed into
you, what are you going to bring out from this seed that has been dropped into you?”, she quipped.
“Kudos to FABE for working with our young people and women in the identification, exploration and facilitation of sustainable eco-solutions to problems caused by the impact of climate change which is affecting the health and environment of people and the biodiversity in our country through creative innovation”, she stated.
While she marvelled at the saying of one of the Eco Ambassadors who stated that ” Nothing is a waste until it is completely wasted “, Somoye admitted that she needed to understand the nitty-gritty of the skills to pass them on to younger people she comes across.
