Veteran Nollywood actor, Chief Fabian Adibe, best remembered for his role in the television adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s classic novel Things Fall Apart, has passed away. He died after a brief illness at the age of 80.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the news of his demise was first announced on Wednesday by celebrity journalist and founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, through social media. His daughter, Nkechi, later confirmed the sad development in a heartfelt tribute posted on Instagram.
“With a heavy heart, I’m sharing that Chief Fabian Adibe, my dad, passed away after a brief illness. He was the best father anyone could think of. May God grant him eternal rest and peace,” she wrote.
Born on December 1, 1943, in Owerri, Imo State, Adibe studied Theatre Arts at the University of Ibadan, where he received formal training in acting and performance. His career spanned several decades, making him one of Nollywood’s most respected figures.
Adibe rose to national prominence in 1987 when he featured in the NTA adaptation of Things Fall Apart, a performance that remains etched in the hearts of many Nigerians and contributed significantly to Nigeria’s cultural history.
Beyond that groundbreaking role, Adibe built a remarkable career with appearances in numerous movies across different genres. His filmography includes popular titles such as Broken Plate, Evil Desire, Peacemaker, Oke Belgium, The Prince and the Princess, Honourable, Billionaires Club, and Fire on the Mountain.

His death marks the end of an era in Nollywood, where he was celebrated for his versatility, commanding presence, and dedication to the craft of storytelling. Tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, fans, and the film community, all mourning the loss of a legend who contributed immensely to Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
