Usman Alkali Baba the Inspector-General of Police (IG) has said vehicles with factory-fitted tinted glasses are exempted from getting police permits.
While speaking to journalists on Monday during a virtual interaction section, the Inspector General of Police made this clarification about the use of police permits by vehicle owners with factory-fitted tinted glasses.
Restating the commitment of the police to curb crimes and criminality across the country, the IGP said the police were concerned about tinted glasses that are not factory-fitted because operatives cannot see through such vehicles.
He said: “Factory-fitted tinted glasses are not affected. They are not the ones we are quarreling about because you can see through most of the factory-fitted glasses. If you want them to open, you can then ask them to open. We are talking about the ones you cannot even identify, whether there’s someone inside or not,” the police boss said in reference to the controversy over the enforcement of tinted permits by policemen on the roads.
When asked what the police were doing to ensure that operatives enforcing these laws understood the directive given the continued arrest and impoundment of vehicles with factory-fitted tinted glasses, Baba said the force was making efforts to educate the cops on the policy for effective implementation.
The police boss urged the media to help disseminate the information so that people are better informed on the issue of tinted permits for vehicles.
The move by the Inspector General of Police is bound to calm many motorists some of who have had to abandon their vehicles at home upon threats of impoundment of vehicles without the tinted permits. It would be recalled that the police IG gave an order that the issuance of new permits should be suspended.
