Fajemisin Family Denounces Appointment
Following the appointment of Prince Clement Adesuyi Haastrup as the new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, the Fajemisin Royal Family has strongly criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke’s government. They accuse the government of ignoring the sacred traditions of Ijesaland and violating a court order. The family announced their intention to challenge the decision, calling it a contempt of court. The case, HIL/117/2024, was filed by Prince Debo Adeyemi and others from the Ofokutu Royal Family, who are seeking a fair and lawful process.
A statement from the Fajemisin family, signed by Ayinde Fatunga Fajemisin, condemned the appointment, claiming that the selection process was flawed and ignored the established customs and court orders. The royal family accused the government of disobeying the judiciary and pushing through an unfair election.
The statement also emphasized that the Fajemisin family has two eligible candidates for the position, both of whom followed the court’s injunction to halt the selection process. Despite this, the kingmakers, local government, and state government proceeded with the appointment of Haastrup. The Fajemisin family called for a fair and lawful process that respects both tradition and the rule of law.
