Falana, Falz Give Bobrisky 12-Hour Ultimatum to Apologize, Retract Defamatory Claims
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana and his son, musician and activist Folarin Falana, also known as Falz, have demanded a public apology and retraction from popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, over defamatory statements he allegedly made.
The claims were circulated through audio recordings shared online, including one posted by controversial media critic Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan. In the recording, Bobrisky alleged that he had asked Falz to help persuade his father, Femi Falana, to secure a presidential pardon for him, allegedly involving a payment of N10 million. Bobrisky also claimed he requested N3 million from Falz for preferential treatment at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
In another recording shared by VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky claimed to have paid N5 million upfront to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria to facilitate a Federal Government pardon related to charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
However, in a letter dated October 14, 2024, from Falana’s legal representatives, Olorunfemi Akinyemi and Taiwo E. Olawanle, Bobrisky was accused of making false and defamatory statements. The letter, seen by journalists on Wednesday, stated that the accusations were baseless and damaging to Falana’s reputation.
The legal team demanded an immediate public apology and full retraction of the statements across all platforms where they were shared. The letter emphasized that the allegations were completely fabricated, asserting that Falz had never agreed to any such request, nor had Femi Falana ever been involved in any bribery scheme.
The letter further noted that Bobrisky’s claims were aimed at extorting money from the public while damaging Falana’s professional standing. It warned that if Bobrisky failed to issue a retraction and apology within 12 hours of receiving the letter, legal action, including monetary damages, would be pursued.
