EKO HOT BLOG reports that a total of 58 persons in the legal profession were on Thursday, October 12, 2023, conferred with the rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).
This development was disclosed in a statement by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Commines (LPPC), Ms.Hajo Sarki Bello.
She disclosed that the LPPC approved the elevation of the 58 persons at its 159th plenary session held on October 12, with the Chairman, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola in attendance.
A breakdown of the new awardees shows that 57 are from the advocate category and only one person, Prof. Babatunde Adetunji Oni made it from the academic category.
Bello added that the swearing-in ceremony of the 58 successful applicants is scheduled to take place on Monday the 27th day of November.
The statement reads “The rank of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession, who distinguished themselves as advocates and academics.
The meeting further considered four different petitions written against some of the applicants and determined thet cach of _ petition lacked merit and thus dismissed.
“The swearing-in ceremony of the 58 successful applicants is scheduled to take place on Monday the 27th day of November.”
