This follows viral reports claiming that the tournament had been postponed by six months to early 2026 due to a scheduling conflict.
Hence, with the expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the U.S. from June 15 to July 13, 2025.
“Reports on AFCON 2025 are untrue. The CAF Executive Committee will meet, deliberate and make a decision on the AFCON 2025 dates.
“CAF will thereafter issue an official statement on the matter,” CAF said via its X handle on Wednesday.
However, CAF did not specify when the executive committee will meet, and the dates for the 2025 tournament are still to be determined.
In previous reports, CAF was repeatedly questioned about the apparent scheduling conflict.
But failed to provide a solution until General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba informed the BBC that the Nations Cup finals would be held in early 2026.
“We can play after the Club World Cup, but is this good for the interests of the players who have played all the season.
“And then they travel to America to play (and then) immediately come to play AFCON?” Mosengo-Omba said.
“Scheduling is a nightmare for everybody,” he told the BBC.
CAF has also faced criticism for failing to set dates for this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals, also in Morocco.
Additionally, there is uncertainty surrounding the second edition of the African Football League.
The continent’s new super league launched last year.
Eight selected clubs competed for record prize money in a knockout tournament condensed into two months.
However, CAF President Patrice Motsepe promised that the next edition would feature 24 teams.
