EKO HOT BLOG reports that Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and human rights lawyer, has revealed how his son, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz the Bahd Guy, has been embarrassing the government. Falana made the disclosure during the 2nd anniversary of the Odumakin Oluyinka Lecture in Lagos on Sunday.
According to him, Falz’s actions were a result of what he had experienced while growing up. Falana disclosed that his frequent arrests as a legal practitioner always bothered his son, who thought he was a criminal.
He recounted an incident where a man told him to talk to his son to stop embarrassing the government, to which he replied, “which government? Do you mean that boy who is an adult? Can I give you his number so you can talk to him?”
Falana went on to explain that when Falz was six years old, he asked his mother why his father was always being arrested. He wanted to know if his father was a criminal. His mother then had to explain to him that, in Nigeria, under the military regime, only two sets of people were arrested: political suspects and criminal suspects.
Political suspects were those who exposed the criminality of the government.
Falana said, “That is what you see going on.” He noted that his son’s experiences growing up had influenced his actions today, as he continued to use his music to speak out against social and political issues.
This revelation comes after Falz and fellow artist, Vector, released a song titled “Yakubu,” named after the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where they expressed their views on the process and outcome of the 2023 elections.
Falz and Vector are known for their music that speaks out against societal issues and challenges the government to do better.
