Veteran Nollywood actor, Yinka Quadri, has shared how false rumours of his death earlier this year caused significant distress to his family.
The 65-year-old actor reflected on the incident during a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, expressing his disappointment at those who initiated and spread the false information.
In June, reports of Quadri’s supposed death went viral, sparking panic among his fans and loved ones. In response to the situation, Quadri took to his Instagram page to debunk the rumours, assuring everyone that he was “alive and well.”
However, the ordeal had already left its mark. Quadri disclosed that the unfounded reports created a wave of unnecessary anxiety, particularly for his family members.
“When I saw the news, I said, ‘Well done, you content creators.’ But no one would be happy when such a thing is being said about them.
It’s disappointing that someone would think causing sadness in people’s families is a path to success. I leave such individuals to God’s judgment,” Quadri said.
The actor noted that the false reports were especially troubling for his children, who reside abroad.
Despite their consistent communication every three days, the rumour made them question the well-being of their father.
“My children were initially calm, thinking, ‘I just spoke to Daddy last week.’ But as the news spread, it reached a point where everyone became deeply worried,” he said.
The anxiety among his family members led to constant calls at all hours of the day. “They started calling in the morning, afternoon, and night, just to confirm that I was okay.
It disrupted their peace of mind, and that’s something no family should have to endure,” Quadri explained.
He lamented the negative impact such baseless rumours can have on families, stressing that the experience underscored the responsibility of social media users to verify information before sharing it.
He further cautioned against the culture of creating sensational content at the expense of others’ well-being, calling it an unethical and harmful practice.
Quadri’s ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of misinformation in the digital age.
The actor, who is widely respected in the Nollywood industry, urged the public to be mindful of the emotional toll such false reports can have on those targeted and their loved ones.
