Former aviation minister Femi-Fani-Kayode has met with leaders of the Northern Consensus Forum to discuss issues relating to the ongoing tensions between the northern and southern regions of the country.

Kidnappings, rape, murder and armed robbery incidents have been strife in both regions in the past few months with the blame falling on the north.

This has led to violent clashes between both sides and calls for people of the northern region to leave the south-west that is home to the Yoruba people. Moves like these have been heavily publicised by figures such as political activist Sunday Igboho.

A blockade of food products coming from the north also happened some weeks back thereby causing a shortage of essential items such as tomatoes.

Groups such as the Northern Consensus Forum played a key role in ending the blockade and Fani-Kayode was happy to receive them, calling them one of the most progressive groups in the north,” EKO HOT BLOG gathered

“I had the honour and privilege of receiving members of the Northern Consensus Forum led by Dr. Awwal Abdullahi in my Abuja home yesterday,” Fani-Kayode said in a Twitter post.

“This is one of the most powerful & progressive groups in northern Nigeria and they played a critical role in the negotiations which put an end to the recent Northern embargo on foodstuffs being transported to the South. We had a fruitful and productive meeting and I look forward to interacting with them more often. Thanks for coming!”
