As his coffin was carried out, voices rose with calls for freedom and justice: “Russia will be free”, “No to war”, “Russia without Putin”, “We won’t forget”, and “Putin is a murderer.” Navalny’s death in a remote penal colony on Feb. 16 has fueled suspicions of foul play, vehemently denied by the Kremlin.
Despite authorities branding Navalny’s movement as extremist and portraying his supporters as foreign-backed troublemakers, mourners stood undeterred. Flowers in hand, they queued patiently, expressing solidarity with Navalny’s family and admiration for his courage and outspokenness.
For many, Navalny represented hope and defiance against the government’s grip on power. His funeral, marked by heavy security, underscores the ongoing tension between dissent and control in Russia.
Navalny’s final journey to the Borisovskoye cemetery was somber, with barriers sealing off the area.
