Farouk Yahaya To Appear Before House Of Reps On Tuesday

  • Major General Farouk Yahaya will on Tuesday appear before the House of Reps.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the House of Representatives will on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, screen the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Farouk Yahaya.

Yahaya, it was gathered, will appear before a joint sitting of the House Committees on Defence and Army.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had written to the House last week seeking the confirmation of Farouk Yahaya as the Chief of Army Staff.

President Buhari’s letter was read by the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, during the plenary last Wednesday.

EKO HOT BLOG learnt that Gbajabiamila, after reading the letter, referred the request for confirmation to the Committees on Defence and Army.

”In compliance with the provisions of Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act Cap A20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, I hereby forward for confirmation by the House of Representatives, the appointment of Major General Farouk Yahaya as the Chief of Army Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“His CV is herewith attached. It is my hope that the House of Representatives will consider and confirm the nominee in the usual expeditious manner,” the letter read.

Maj. Gen. Yahaya replaced the former Chief of Army Staff, Late Lt. General Attahiru Ibrahim, who died in a plane crash alongside ten military officers in Kaduna about a month ago.
