Fashola Debunks Reports Of Policemen Dying In Convoy

  • Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has denied accusations that police officers died in his convoy.

  • According to the aide, there was no “death crash” when a federal government delegation led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, inspecting the Second Niger Bridge on Tuesday.

 

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Following the tragedy in Delta State, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has denied accusations that police officers died in his convoy.
Hakeem Bello, his Special Adviser on Communications, provided an update in the form of a response on Wednesday.

According to the aide, there was no “death crash” when a federal government delegation led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, inspecting the Second Niger Bridge on Tuesday.

Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour, and Uche Orji, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), were also on the team.

When the crew landed at the Asaba Airport in Delta State, Bello said they went to the Owerri-Onitsha Interchange and the East Approach to the Onitsha Bridge, walking across the West Approach.

He said Gambari was taken to the West approach in Asaba and the bridge’s Toll Plaza before returning to Abuja following a media briefing.

“It was discovered much later that one of the vehicles in the Team of the Commissioner of Police from Anambra State had a mishap during which two policemen sustained injuries.

“It was confirmed from the Nigeria Police, Anambra State Command that they were treated at the Federal Medical Centre Asaba and had since been discharged”, Bello stated.

Speaking further, he expressed sympathy over the two men from the Anambra Police Command who sustained injuries.
