Fatal Shooting at Trump Rally: Victim Identified, Suspect’s Arsenal Uncovered

Eko Hot Blog reports that in the aftermath of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his Pennsylvania rally, new details have emerged about the victim and the suspect.

Governor Josh Shapiro revealed on Sunday, July 14, that the rally attendee killed was Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old former fire service chief.

Shapiro described Comperatore as “an ardent Trump supporter who was excited to be at the rally with the former president,” and stated that he died protecting his family.

The shooter has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. Authorities discovered bomb-making materials in Crooks’ car and at his Bathel Park home during a search.

The suspect allegedly used a high-caliber semiautomatic weapon (AR-15) to target Trump from a rooftop position approximately 400 feet north of the stage.

Two videos verified by The New York Times showed the suspected shooter lying motionless on the roof of a small building.

A Secret Service spokesman confirmed that “multiple shots” were fired “toward the stage” from “an elevated position” outside the rally venue.

The AR-15, described as “America’s rifle” by the National Rifle Association, is known for its customizable features and has been frequently used in mass shootings in the United States. Its effective range is between 500 and 800 yards.

While the Secret Service has not officially confirmed that Trump was shot in the ear, the former president stated, “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.”

The incident has raised questions about security measures at the event, given that attendees typically undergo thorough screenings.

The Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies are facing scrutiny over how the shooter managed to position himself despite extensive security preparations.

Governor Shapiro announced that the state symbol would fly at half-mast to honor Comperatore and expressed hope for the quick recovery of two other critically wounded Pennsylvanians.

As investigations continue, authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attack, especially given that the suspect was allegedly a registered Republican voter.
