EKO HOT BLOG reports that Police are actively investigating the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old woman near a dormitory on the campus of Delaware State University early Sunday morning.
Dover Police reported that campus authorities received a call regarding shots fired on campus at 1:40 a.m. near Warren-Franklin Hall.
Upon arrival, they discovered the victim with a gunshot wound to her upper body.
Furthermore, the young woman, who hails from Wilmington, approximately 50 miles north of the university, has not been publicly identified and was not enrolled as a student.
Fatal Shooting Prompts Joint Investigation At Delaware State University
“Officers immediately provided aid to the victim and swiftly transported her to Bayhealth Kent Campus for treatment,” stated the police.
“Regrettably, the 18-year-old succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.”
However, Dover Police have initiated a homicide investigation and are collaborating closely with Delaware State University Police on the case.
In response to the incident, Delaware State University released a statement on Sunday affirming their commitment to the safety and well-being of the campus community.
“Counseling services are readily available at the Tubman Laws Hall housing office,” the university stated.
“As a precautionary measure, the campus will remain closed today, all scheduled events have been cancelled, and police presence has been heightened.
Visitation will not be permitted throughout the day.”
