Fayemi Condoles With Ikun Amure-Ekiti Community Over Death Of Prominent Son

Governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi, has expressed his condolences to Oba David Olatunde, the Onikun of Ikun Amure-Ekiti and the people of the ancient town on Wednesday, June 3, 2020.

The condolences is occassioned by the death of Mr Jonathan Adewumi, one of the town’s prominent sons around the world whose life was cut short by the coronavirus in faraway New York, US where he was a resident. He died on Friday, April 17, 2020.

The governor was represented at the by senior special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs to Ekiti State governor.

The Ekiti state Diaspora Focal Point Officer (DFPO) Femi Odere, who, in the presence of the monarch, addressed the town’s Chiefs and High Chiefs and the brother of the deceased said late Adewumi was an invaluable asset to the Fayemi government. He said he was a man of uncommon commitment and passion whose relatively short engagement with the government through the state’s DFPO speaks volume. The governor’s aide said Mr. Adewumi can be described as “a thousand Ekiti indigenes ensconced in just one soul” with the way he was always extending himself towards the government through him without been asked and without expecting anything in return. “He was just too unusual. He will be sorely missed,” he emphasized.

In his remarks, Oba Olatunde thanked Governor Fayemi for acknowledging the importance of this kind of visit as the “death of our son in America is a huge loss to the entire people of my town.” “It was such a painful death that I’m not sure if we will ever get over it, having already done so much and had promised us laudable, employment generating projects for the town,” the monarch said.

Oba Olatunde also expressed his appreciation to Governor Fayemi for the revitalization of Ero dam, the largest dam in the Southwest region as well as bringing the dairy farm into the town. The spokesman of the chiefs also expressed similar appreciation.

Present at the palace to receive the governor’s aide were High Chiefs Obalegosi, Oba Elemo, Obalemikun, Oba Edisun, Eeyerangun (head of the female chiefs). The chiefs were Obanla (Ilemikun), Ewi of Owarukun and Ewi Okerunkun among others.

The monarch later took the governor’s aide to the Promassidor Dairy farm in the community for an inspection tour.
