Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the immediate past governor of Ekiti State and a key figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), declared that there would be no automatic return tickets for National and State Assembly members from the state in the 2027 elections. Speaking during an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Isan Ekiti on Thursday, Fayemi emphasized the need for lawmakers to work actively in support of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s second-term bid.
Fayemi praised Governor Oyebanji’s performance and urged party members to rally behind him. “In politics, you can never finish the work. Let’s support our capable governor, who has shown great leadership. If we stand by him, Ekiti people will gladly accept him for another term,” Fayemi said.
Addressing attempts to create friction between him and Governor Oyebanji, Fayemi dismissed such claims, expressing full support for the current administration. “I will never destroy what I helped to build. Governor Oyebanji has done exceptionally well in the past two years across all sectors,” he remarked.
Fayemi also criticized those who opposed Oyebanji’s candidacy in 2022 but are now advocating for his re-election. “Some of these individuals left our party to contest elsewhere. Now, they are back and clamoring for the governor’s return. While we welcome them, they must wait in line, as those of us who stood firm will lead the way,” he said.
As the 2025 governorship election approaches, Fayemi urged party members to unite and work diligently to ensure Oyebanji’s victory, reiterating the president’s unwavering support for the governor’s leadership.
