Kayode Fayemi, governor of Ekiti, has enjoined political appointees in the state to wear face masks in public or risk being sanctioned.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the governor issued the warning in light of imminent second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
The warning was contained in a circular addressed to all political appointees and signed by Biodun Oyebanji, secretary to the state government.
In the circular, appointed officials were accused of flagrant disregard for COVID-19 regulations.
“Despite the common knowledge about the presence and resurgence of COVID-19 pandemic, it has been observed that government officials have largely become complacent about these realities through disregard for necessary preventive measures,” the circular read.
“This attitude, to say the least, is not only reckless but also shows nonchalance about one’s well being.
