The Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) has announced its commitment to launching an e-ticketing and central booking scheme aimed at transforming traffic management for motorists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). DRTS Director Mr. Abdulateef Bello made the announcement during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Bello emphasized that the new technological system is designed to minimize, and eventually eliminate, physical interactions between DRTS personnel and motorists on the roads.
To facilitate this transition, the DRTS has partnered with multiple service providers specializing in electronic traffic management and penalty systems.
“We have engaged several companies on a Proof of Concept basis, installing their devices at strategic locations throughout the FCT to demonstrate their ability to identify infractions and administer penalties effectively,” he explained.
Following this pilot phase, the DRTS will seek regulatory approval before proceeding to formal procurement, aiming for some systems to be operational by the first quarter of next year.
The implementation of electronic enforcement is expected to address vehicle offences and improve road safety within the FCT.
Bello reassured the public that the likelihood of conflicts between vehicle inspection officers and motorists would significantly decrease under the new system.
“Upon committing an infraction, motorists will receive a ticket via their registered phone numbers, allowing them to continue their journey while being informed of the violation and the corresponding fine,” he stated.
In addition to the e-ticketing initiative, Bello noted that DRTS personnel are currently undergoing training for the new system, while existing officers continue to manage traffic effectively.
He urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations, ensure their vehicle documentation is up to date, and register for timely renewals.
Under the leadership of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the DRTS is determined to enhance vehicle administration and service delivery for the FCT, with a vision of transitioning to a paperless system in the near future.
