In a statement, Saidu emphasized that no true Northerner would endorse Akpabio for the role of Senate President. He condemned the endorsement of Akpabio by a coalition of Northern groups, highlighting that it does not represent the sentiments of the genuine Northern populace.
“We hereby disassociate ourselves from the endorsement of Akpabio for the Senate Presidency by a coalition of Northern groups,”
Saidu stated. “No true Northern group would support Akpabio for such a critical position because he lacks a favorable disposition towards the North. As residents of the South, we are well acquainted with Akpabio’s affiliations, and it is evident that he is not among those who foster friendly relations with the Northern people.”
Saidu’s warning implies that selecting Akpabio as Senate President could lead to a strained relationship between the North and the South, ultimately undermining the unity and stability of Nigeria. He urged decision-makers to consider individuals who have demonstrated a genuine commitment to fostering harmony and understanding among all regions of the country.
The concerns raised by Saidu reflect the importance of maintaining a balanced and inclusive leadership that prioritizes the interests of all regions in Nigeria. As the process of selecting the next Senate President unfolds, stakeholders will likely take into account the various viewpoints and potential ramifications of their decisions.
It remains to be seen how this warning will impact the ongoing discussions surrounding the appointment of the Senate President.
