Concerns among residents heightened after one nurse passed away three days ago, followed by the deaths of another nurse and the hospital’s doctor on Tuesday, and another nurse yesterday.
Speaking with Vanguard, a resident, Adekunle Lawal, expressed the community’s worries. “Three days ago, a nurse died. On Monday, another nurse passed away, and yesterday, the doctor and one more nurse died,” he said.

“We are all afraid because we don’t know the cause. Some say the doctor was unqualified, and there’s speculation they may have contracted a contagious disease from a patient that wasn’t properly managed.”
Lawal noted that while the hospital often handles minor surgeries and sometimes brings in external doctors, no patients have died, raising questions. “Some people think it could be food poisoning, as perhaps one of them shared contaminated food. But these are just assumptions. We need authorities to step in and conduct autopsies on the deceased.”
Another resident, Adeola Fehintola, a lawyer, urged for an urgent investigation given Saki’s proximity to international borders. “With the town so close to the borders, it’s possible someone brought a contagious illness into the community. Authorities need to investigate urgently to uncover the cause and prevent further deaths.”
Residents have called on the Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies to take swift action to determine the cause and protect the community’s health.
