Eko Hot Blog reports The Federal Government has issued a directive to Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) Nigeria Limited, the construction firm responsible for the Eleme section of the East-West Road in Rivers State, to immediately resume work on the project.
Sen. David Umahi, the Minister of Works, gave the order during his unscheduled inspection visit to the project site on January 27, 2024.
The suspension of work on the 15-kilometer Eleme to Onne Junction was initiated by the minister due to observed infractions on the construction specifications.
Following this, a meeting was convened with the Permanent Secretary, key directors of the Ministry of Works, and the management of RCC Ltd to address the technical issues raised.
In accordance with the resolutions reached during the meeting, the minister has now directed RCC Ltd to resume work on the four sections of the East-West Road project while strictly adhering to the contract specifications.
In a statement, it was emphasized, “The minister further directs the contractors handling the project to resume work on the four sections of the project and in strict compliance with the contract specifications.”
This decision comes after the minister had ordered the suspension of the project earlier due to concerns about substandard work.
The Federal Government is keen on ensuring that the construction of the East-West Road meets the required standards and specifications, and the directive to resume work reflects the commitment to addressing the issues and moving forward with the project.
