Eko Hot Blog reports that in a recent development at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Professor Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, and his lawyer, Sunny Anyanwu, were granted bail.
The duo is facing charges brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, including four counts of alleged sexual harassment and an attempt to pervert the course of justice.
During the bail hearing on Friday, Justice James Omotoso ruled on the conditions for the bail.
He stated, “Bail is granted to the first defendant in the sum of N250 million with two sureties who own properties within FCT with a minimum valuation of N150 million.”
The judge further specified that Ndifon and his sureties must submit their bank statements, and the first defendant must surrender his international passport to the court.
Anyanwu, the second defendant, was granted bail in the sum of N50 million with two sureties, who are required to submit their bank statements. Justice Omotoso emphasized that both defendants must file an undertaking not to interfere with the case, express readiness to attend trial, and commit not to cause any delays.
The charges against Ndifon and Anyanwu include allegations of sexual harassment and attempting to obstruct justice.
The court proceedings have been adjourned until Monday for the continuation of the hearing.
This development marks a significant step in the ongoing legal proceedings, shedding light on the complexities surrounding the case.
The defense’s argument centered on the need for fair treatment and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
