According to Femi Kuti, his father never sent him to school because he wanted to prove a point that one can equally make it in life even without education.
He stated that Fela had his own mistakes and faults but a great man. He stressed that the refusal of his father to send him to school was a risky decision.

“Yes, Fela was great. But Fela did have faults. But one of the faults is that Fela wanted to use me as an experiment.
His excuse was that I would be successful without going to school. Everybody freaked out including his mother, my mother, and everyone in the family. When I became successful he said to me, ‘Didn’t I tell you?”
