Eko Hot Blog reports that a Consultant Psychiatrist and Newspaper Columnist, Dr. Femi Olugbile, is set to publicly present his new book ‘Pelewura’.
The public presentation of the new book is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in Victoria Island, Lagos state.
Former Inspector-General of Police, Musiliu Smith, is the Father of the Day.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Dr. Patrick Dele Cole will chair the event, while Bashorun JK Randle will serve as the book reviewer.
The book ‘Pelewura’ reveals the untold story of gender politics in early colonial Lagos and Nigeria.
Dr. Olugbile shared insights into the content of his book in an interview with Eko Hot Blog.
He highlighted the historical foundations within Lagos and Yorubaland, especially regarding the woman called Pelewura.
The writer explained that the book is a work of fiction based on the historical fact of the existence of Peluwara, a heroine for women in Yorubaland.
“Pelewura is the name of a person and based on Lagos history. It’s a work of fiction based on historical fact and the person depicted is an important role model for womanhood in Yorubaland especially in Lagos,” Dr. Olugbile told our reporter.
“She was the founder of the Lagos women market association which is the first market women association in Nigeria.”
He continued stating, “Her story is captivating and deserves recognition. The book doesn’t delve into history; it’s a unique blend of historical facts and fictional narrative, a genre known as faction. ‘Pelewura’ joins my portfolio of literary works, as writing is my passion.”
Dr. Olugbile believes that ‘Pelewura’ will deeply impact its readers, offering a fresh perspective on lesser-known aspects of Lagos’s history, unraveling the incredible strides of remarkable figures from the past.
“The book will let people know about the history of Lagos some of the achievements of people who have come before that many people might not be aware of,” he said.
The author of six books, including ‘Lonely Men’, ‘Leader’, ‘Ten Ahead’, ‘Batolica’, ‘Heroes’, and many more, said he was excited about the impact ‘Pelewura’ would have on its readers.
