The International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) has named Argentine legend Lionel Messi as the Greatest Footballer of All Time, placing him at the top of its newly released Top 10 list of the sport’s most iconic players.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Messi leads a distinguished lineup that features football greats such as Pelé, Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Johan Cruyff.

According to IFFHS, the ranking was based on several key criteria including individual brilliance, influence on the game, major honours won, consistency, and long-term legacy.

Widely regarded as one of the most complete players in history, Messi’s stellar career boasts multiple UEFA Champions League titles, domestic league triumphs across Spain and France, a Copa América win, and a 2022 FIFA World Cup victory with Argentina. He also holds a record eight Ballon d’Or awards, further cementing his status as a football icon.

In a statement, the IFFHS described the list as “a tribute to the giants of football whose legacies transcend eras. From Pelé’s pioneering brilliance to Messi’s modern mastery, each name has changed the game in their own extraordinary way.”
