Former Aviation Minister and critic, Femi Fani-Kayode has berated the Federal Government for not allowing IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to bury his parents in peace.
He described it as a shameful act, sheer wickedness and utterly unacceptable.
In a post on his Facebook page, Fani-Kayode pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari not to shed the blood of any mourner during the burial ceremony of Nnamdi Kanu’s parents.
He said doing so would desecrate the funeral rites as the deceaseds deserve to be buried in peace and with honor and dignity.
“I urge you to be reasonable, rational, gentle, respectful, kind and restrained knowing that those that shall attend the funeral in person and indeed millions from all over the world that will be watching it on television are in mourning and are burying their dead. It is a painful and difficult time for them.
I counsel you NOT to provoke or attempt to intimidate them or start something that will create more tension in the country and possibly spark off a major crisis in the east.
The Governors of the South-East and particularly Governor Umahi of Ebonyi and Governor Ugwainyi of Enugu, have done a good job when it comes to security in their respective states.
They have done a lot of work quietly behind closed doors and behind the scenes to protect their people from the barbaric criminals and the savage foreign invaders and secure their safety. I can testify to that and I have seen evidence of it.
We do not want anyone or any group of people from outside the zone who have never wished the people of the South East (or indeed the South) well and who want the entire zone to be thrown into a major crisis, chaos and turmoil to take advantage of the situation and use the opportunity of the burial to start killing people and undermine all their efforts.
My prayer is that everyone sees sense in what I am saying, that we are all extremely careful, that we all sheath our swords and that His Royal Highness Eze Israel Kanu and Her Royal Highness Ugoeze Nnene Kanu are given a grand, befitting and peaceful burial.
May their beautiful souls rest in peace and may God comfort my friend and brother Nnamdi Kanu, his entire family, the people of Isiama Afara, the people of Abia state and the people of the South East for this terrible loss.” He said
