EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Federal Government is preparing to begin the trial of approximately 2,000 Boko Haram members. The trials are set to occur in Kainji, Niger State, within a secured environment provided by the special security group, Operation Safe Corridor.

The trials have been delayed due to logistical issues, such as the Ministry of Justice’s request for the Nigerian Air Force to transport the judges and lawyers involved in the proceedings. However, the commencement of the trials is still expected to occur in the first quarter of 2023.

More suspects may face trial as the insurgency continues, and the Ministry of Justice is working to reconfigure the military holding facilities to make them more conducive for the trials.
