The Federal Government has donated ₦30 million to the family of the late Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the renowned designer of Nigeria’s National Flag, nearly two years after his passing.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, alongside the Oyo State NOA Director, Olukemi Afolayan, presented the cheque at the late hero’s residence in Elebu, Ibadan, on Thursday.

Akinkunmi passed away on August 29, 2023, at the age of 87. Following his death, President Bola Tinubu dispatched a government delegation, led by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Malagi, to pay a condolence visit. During the visit, the government pledged a national burial and financial support to the family.
Speaking at the presentation, Issa-Onilu emphasized that the donation was not a payment for Akinkunmi’s services but a token of appreciation for his contributions to Nigeria.
Akinwunmi Akinkunmi, one of the late designer’s sons, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the support.
