Eko Hot Blog reports that the Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, has concluded discussions with Dutch investors to secure a €25 million euro grant for constructing priority bridges across Nigeria.
This was announced in a statement by Umahi’s Special Adviser, Barrister Orji Uchenna Orji, on Friday in Abuja.
The talks followed a meeting between Minister Umahi and a team of investors from the Netherlands led by Nigerian Ambassador Oluremi Oliyide.
Umahi assured the team of the federal government’s positive stance on accessing international donor funds to address infrastructure deficits hampering Nigeria’s development.
He stated “We have a number of projects that we can do together. But I think the best thing to do is to conclude this one, which is a grant, then get the process started, and at the point of agreement and project selection, we shall refer to Mr. President for his approval.”
Ambassador Oliyide explained the team was discussing an offer of a 25 million euro grant by Janson Bridging International for investing in Nigerian road infrastructure.
Janson Bridging is Europe’s largest modular bridge manufacturer and the world’s biggest bridge rental company.
The ambassador promised to fast track the agreement process once formalities are complete. Consultant Eric Okunde said investors are ready with the proposal and can collaborate on mapping, designing, and executing the projects.
