The Federal Government (FG) has said that it was in talks with its counterpart in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the resumption of flights between the two countries, EKO HOT BLOG has gathered.
This was disclosed by the Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, at the committee’s briefing in Abuja on Monday.
“For some time now, Nigeria has been discussing with the authorities of the United Arab Emirates on the resumption of flights between the two countries.
“The PSC will urge the United Arab Emirates to remove the country-specific and discriminatory practices against Nigeria.
“Discussions are however ongoing and we can assure Nigerians that the outcome will be in the interest of the country,” Mustapha said.
Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, added that the committee would, in the next couple of months, focus on increasing testing in states, increase oxygen reserve capacity in case there is a third wave, and increase vaccine acquisition drive.

He further stated that the committee would continue to disseminate information on compliance with the prescribed protocols and vaccination while the development around the world is being understudied.
According to Punch, Mustapha also said the committee has intensified efforts on the creation of awareness to achieve a reduction of vaccine hesitancy and encourage all eligible persons to come out and take their second dose.
He, therefore, appealed to all Nigerians to continue to observe the non-pharmaceutical interventions diligently.
Mustapha further enjoined Nigerians to eschew sentiments by ensuring that friends, relations, and associates arriving from countries of concern and indeed all countries obey the quarantine and post-arrival protocols.
He added that Nigeria cannot afford a third wave, saying the FG would do everything possible to protect its territory.
Mustapha later led other PSC members to take their second jab of the COVID-19 vaccine.
