FG Inaugurates Governing Council For Disabilities Commission
The Federal Government on Tuesday inaugurated the governing council of the National Commission For Persons With Disabilities.
The council was inaugurated in Abuja by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq.
She said the commission was established to bring the years of exclusion of persons with disabilities to an end.
Farouq said the establishment of the commission would go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of persons with disabilities including seeing to their education, general wellbeing, employment and economic development.
The Minister charged the seven-man governing council to carry out their duties diligently and adhere strictly to their terms of reference.

“You were carefully selected on the recommendations of highly placed Nigerians.
“I, therefore, challenge you to bring to bare your expertise in putting in your best, devoid of personal enrichment to support the commission to deliver the dividends of democracy to persons with disabilities,” she said.
The Chairman, National Commission For Persons With Disabilities, Husseini Kangiwa, said the council was aware of the task ahead and would ensure that it build a good foundation for the commission.
He said the council would develop policies and programmes that would enable it to meet the needs of persons with disabilities within the limit of the commission’s resources.
