The Federal Government has unveiled a new policy for network service subscribers to replace lost, stolen, misplaced, or damaged SIM cards with their National Identification Numbers (NINs).
According to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the policy is part of the government’s efforts to simplify the exercise of retrieving lost SIM cards.

The NCC said henceforth it is mandatory that subscribers present their NIN for SIM cards to be replaced or retrieved.
Eko Hot Blog gathers that the NIMC will also verify the NIN presented by subscribers before Mobile Network Operators replace the SIMs.
“It is aimed at enabling telecommunications service users who need to replace their damaged, stolen or misplaced SIMs to re-establish access to telecom services,” a statement jointly signed by the NIMC and NCC’s spokespersons added.
