FG , JICA Partner to Empower 500,000 Farmers Ahead of 2025 Wet Season

In a move to enhance agricultural productivity and food security across Nigeria, the Federal Government (FG) has joined forces with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to provide essential support to 500,000 farmers before the 2025 wet season, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Valued at N12 billion, the initiative is being implemented under JICA’s Food Security Emergency Support funding, which focuses on fostering sustainable and resilient agriculture through timely input delivery, improved post-harvest handling, and better market access for farmers.

A crucial meeting was held in Abuja, where the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, convened with the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, and the Bank of Agriculture Managing Director, Mr. Ayo Sotinrin.
The discussion centered on the effective deployment of this substantial support package to maximize its impact on the agricultural sector and the beneficiaries.
A statement from Ministry of Finance Spokesperson Mohammed Manga on Thursday said the programme seeks to build sustainable food systems and strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural resilience against global supply shocks.
“This partnership marks a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural sector and enhancing food security,” the statement noted.
“By empowering 500,000 farmers and improving agricultural practices, the initiative is poised to increase crop yields, enhance rural livelihoods, and contribute to the country’s economic growth.”
