FG, LASG Urged To Call Security Agencies To Order, Epe Residents Appeal

Some residents of Epe Division of Lagos State have called on the Federal and Lagos State Governments to call the nation’s security agencies to order against maltreating residents during this trying period of COVID – 19 pandemic.

The concerned residents expressed there dismay in separate interviews with EkoHotBlog in Epe, on Friday.

They said that the security agencies which include the Police, Army and DSS were not coordinated in enforcing Covid-19 stay-at-home order.

A resident, Mr Jide Tobun, expressed his worries over misconduct of security operatives. He said that most at times the security agencies, especially the police disguise in mofty while on operations, an act he considered as an abuse of professional ethics.

“They drive with different cars to operate thereby, appearing as a threat to residents.

“This development is alarming, they are supposed to conduct themselves peacefully and orderly, ” he said.

Similarly, Miss Tinuke Adeola, appealed to Lagos State Government to caution the security agencies in the state against subjecting the people to further hardship in the face of coronavirus pandemic.

Adeola said that several residents were beaten mercilessly while some were harassed unjustly.

“The people that were beaten followed the directives of the government by going out at the stipulated time given by the government which is between 10am and 4pm”.

“But despite that, the security agencies still harass and embarrass some residents who went about their activities within the stipulated time ” she said.

Also, Mr Ademola Olufowobi, the Financial Secretary, Concerned Nation Builders Initiative (CNI), expressed dissatisfaction over the actions of the security agencies since the inception of the lockdown.

According to him, the government agencies are not friendly with motorists, trycycle riders and motorcycle operators.

He said that the way the security agencies harass, beat and maltreat these operators was quite dehumanising.

Olufowobi hereby appealed to government at all levels to call the security agencies to order and ask they thread softly.

He urged everyone to stay at home and stay safe during this period.

Olufowobi also urged well meaning Nigerians to support the less privilege ones by giving them food and relief materials to live with during this trying time.

He called on philanthropists and men of goodwill to support NGOs seeking to partner with government to reach out to rural dwellers and the needy.
