Eko Hot Blog reports that the Federal Government has made a u-turn on its earlier announcement that Emirates and Etihad flights would resume immediately after the diplomatic row between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was resolved.
In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Aviation said there was no current timeframe for the resumption of flights.
The statement said the government was working with the UAE authorities to resolve any outstanding issues, but that it was too early to say when flights would resume.
The decision to suspend flights was taken in April after the UAE placed a visa ban on Nigerians. The ban was lifted in June, but flights have yet to resume.
The suspension of flights has caused inconvenience for many Nigerians, who rely on Emirates and Etihad to travel to and from Nigeria.
The Ministry of Aviation said it was committed to resolving the issue as soon as possible and that it would provide updates as soon as they were available.
The u-turn by the FG has raised concerns among Nigerians, who are wondering why the government is backtracking on its earlier announcement.
Some have speculated that the UAE may be demanding certain concessions from the FG in order to resume flights. Others have suggested that the FG may be having difficulty resolving the outstanding issues with the UAE authorities.
Whatever the reason, the delay in the resumption of flights is causing frustration and inconvenience for many Nigerians.
The FG is urged to provide clear and concise information to Nigerians about the status of the negotiations with the UAE authorities and to provide a timeline for the resumption of flights.
