The Federal Government on Friday said it would have to impose fresh nationwide lockdown if the country continues to witness upsurge in COVID-19 cases, Ekohotblog is reporting.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVIF-19, Sani Aliyu, said the government is deeply worried about the spike in COVID-19 cases.
He said alarming rate which coronavirus is spreading in the country might prompt the government to impose a fresh lockdown.
He said, “If these numbers continue to go up and we start having significant deaths, we will have no option. If we do not want to lock down, now is the time to make sure that we follow the non-pharmaceutical interventions.”
PTF Chairman and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, also shared the concerns, saying the government is perturbed and aghast be the continual surge in COVID-19 cases.
He admonished Nigerians to be cautious and adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.
He said “The Presidential Task Force is very concerned about the increasing daily numbers that we are recording.

“On the 6th of January 2021, we recorded 1,664 infections. This is yet another all-time high in Nigeria and we must all take full responsibility through compliance and vigilance.”
