The Federal Government of Nigeria has set aside N675 billion for procurement of equipment and training of 8,000 soldiers to eliminate Boko Haram insurgency, banditry and other forms of crime in the northern part of the country.

According to Mohammed Ali Ndume, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, divulged this in Maiduguri, Borno State, while lamenting lack of adequate arms and equipment for Nigerian Army to fight insurgents in the states.

Eko Hot Blog gathered that In the analysis of the N675 billion military budget, Ndume said N500 billion is for procurement of arms and ammunition as well as fighting equipment. “The sum of N100 billion is for the ongoing training of 8,000 soldiers in Zaria and Falgore Forest to match with modern warfare against the insurgency.”

Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South senatorial district, said: “Even today (Sunday), we hear of attacks here and there. I believe that with more commitment, which is now coming from President Muhammadu Buhari’s New Year broadcast, the security situation in the country will improve tremendously by mid-2021.”

Ndume went further to rain praises on PMB lead administration as being a full fledged democratic government. He claimed that since the inception of democratic governance in the country, no government has implemented the budget up to 70 per cent, except the Buhari administration.

However, many Nigerians believes that PMB lead administration has failed woefully in providing adequate security architecture in country, couple with recession and glamourized corruption in different regions.
